The Producer UI is where you build and configure your show structure. Access it at /app/<workspaceId>/producer.
Overview
The Producer view lets you:
- Create and manage channels (output buses).
- Create and manage layers (z-index groups) within channels.
- Create and manage elements (graphic instances) within layers.
- Configure element content and visual settings.
- Upload and manage assets (images, logos).
Managing channels
Channels are the top-level organizer within a workspace. Each channel is an independent output.
Create a channel
- Click Add Channel.
- Enter a name (e.g., "Main Program") and optional description.
- Click Create.
Edit or delete a channel
Use the edit and delete buttons on each channel card. Deleting a channel also deletes all its layers and elements.
Managing layers
Layers belong to a channel and control z-index stacking. Elements on higher z-index layers appear in front.
Create a layer
- Select a channel.
- Click Add Layer.
- Enter a name (e.g., "Lower Thirds").
- Set the z-index (e.g., 10, 20, 30). Higher values stack in front.
- Optionally set a region to hint at screen position:
band-lower-- bottom band (lower thirds)band-upper-- top bandcorner-tl,corner-tr,corner-bl,corner-br-- corners (bugs)full-- full frame (billboards)
- Click Create.
Layer planning
Plan your layer structure before building. A typical setup:
| Layer | Z-index | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Bugs | 30 | Corner logos, always-on marks |
| Lower Thirds | 20 | Name straps, titles |
| Full Screen | 10 | Billboards, sponsor displays |
The z-index determines visual stacking -- if two layers overlap, the higher z-index layer is in front.
Managing elements
Elements are the individual graphics you create from module templates.
Create an element
- Select a channel, then a layer.
- Click Add Element.
- Enter a name (e.g., "Speaker: Andrew"). This name appears in the operator rundown.
- Select a module (e.g., "Basic Lower Third").
- Fill in the configuration fields. These are generated from the module's config schema and vary by module type. For a lower third, you might fill in:
- Primary text: "Andrew Smith"
- Secondary text: "Creative Director"
- Alignment: Left
- Variant: Solid
- Click Create.
Edit an element
Click edit on any element to change its name, configuration, or module assignment. Changes take effect the next time the element is taken live.
Reorder elements
Elements have a sort order that controls their position in the operator's rundown. Drag elements to reorder them within a layer.
Managing assets
Access the asset library at /app/<workspaceId>/producer/assets.
Upload assets
- Click Upload.
- Select one or more image files (PNG, JPG, SVG).
- Files are validated for type and size before upload.
Organize assets
- Use virtual folders to group assets (e.g., "Logos", "Backgrounds").
- Add tags for additional categorization.
Using assets in elements
Some modules support asset references (e.g., the lower third module has a logoAssetId field). When configuring an element, you can select an asset from your library to display.
Asset usage
The asset library shows a usage indicator for each asset -- click it to see which elements reference that asset. This helps you avoid deleting assets that are in use.
Tips
- Name elements descriptively: Operators need to quickly identify the right graphic in a list. "Speaker: Andrew Smith" is better than "Lower Third 1".
- Plan your layers: Decide on a z-index scheme before building. It's easier to set up layers once than to restructure later.
- Use theme tokens: Configure workspace theme tokens (CSS variables) to maintain consistent styling across all your graphics.
- Test in the overlay: Open the overlay URL (
/o/<workspaceId>/channel/<channelId>) in a browser tab alongside the producer to preview how your graphics look.
